District Convention Report
The District Convention Committee has met three times. The theme of this year's convention will be "Creating Our Future Through Service." With this theme in mind, the following programs have been selected, and with some minor adjustments to locations and times, are set for the breakout sessions: Wisconsin Lions Foundation and Pride Program; Lions Eye Bank; Diabetes with a visit by Alice in Dairyland; Website Development and Public Relations; Lions Eye Health Program; Service Projects that Work; Children's Vision Screening; Working with the Red Cross on CCR and Blood Drives; and Lions Orientation.
The registration form has been completed and has been posted on the District website at http://www.md27d1.org/cabinet/docs/27d1-convention-registration-2010.pdf. The meals selected include a chicken breast for the luncheon and a stuffed pork chop for the Honors Banquet.
Our Friday evening hospitality will include games of chance to earn addition door prize tickets, socializing renewing old acquaintances and making new ones. The Friday evening hospitality will begin at 7:30 pm following the cabinet meeting and dinner.
All other aspects of the convention are coming together to ensure that you will be delivered an experience you are accustomed too. However, due to Iowa gaming laws we will not be able to run any raffles at this year's convention, but the committee is considering some alternative ways to raise funds through donations.
Finally, at our last committee meeting we were informed that the Governor Dodge Hotel and Convention Center in Platteville has ceased operations and has closed.
